Day of visitors!
Day 4 the hospital started to feel more like my everyday norm. I was disappointed to find out that they still had me on hourly checks, even though they said that it would go to every other hour. No problem, though, since I heard that lovely whooshing every time. They took me off all of the machines that morning, so I no longer had the annoying beeping machine, no more fluids, and (sniff) no more morphine. Sarah arrived pretty early in the morning, bearing food of course, and we started our day as we did the last. A little chat to catch up, some life story telling, and conversing with the staff, especially Alex since we knew that it was his last day with us. My nurse, Peggy, was awesome, but dang did she love to see me walking. Alex walked me around the nursing pod that morning and we made two laps without any support. I was a turtle, but I did it on my own!

Carrie and Scott stopped by for a short visit. Sarah had a dinner and movie date with her husband that afternoon, so she left when Jason arrived. It was nice to have alone time with Jason and after we were bored of a short catch up conversation, I introduced him to Words With Friends and we played to pass the time. Kathy, Sarah’s mother-in-law, stopped by for a short visit. She had the surgery a few years ago and has been a tremendous resource for me. It was uplifting to see her, especially walking around totally healed and realizing that it was in my future. She is amazingly nice and caring, so it was great to see her. Kathy’s visit was short and Jason stayed as long as he could, but eventually needed to leave to be with the boys.
As he was leaving, Leslie texted and let me know that she was on her way. Sarah arrived right after Leslie and shortly after my pastor, Jonathan arrived. We talked parenting for a while and then let Jonathan dominate the conversation with church going ons and it was a very welcome conversation. Alex came in and said that Peggy wanted me walking again. Leslie decided to leave at that point, Sarah freshened my water and my stuff, but Jonathan made the trek with Alex and me. Jonathan was concerned that it would take more than 30 minutes and I just laughed and told him that he would be fine. We beat our last record and went around the pod three times. I timed it - from getting out of the chair, three laps, and sitting back in the chair it took four minutes. I was getting speedy (normal people could have done it in 45 seconds).
Right before the walk Alex informed me that he had to give up some patients that afternoon. I thanked him for keeping me and he said that I was the only patient that he insisted on keeping. We just love him! Sadly, we had to say goodbye after that. We are already planning a reuniting cup of coffee when I am feeling well enough and I can't wait for it!
Not long after it was just Sarah and me. Now our usual routine, she stayed until I fell asleep. I woke up to this on my white dry erase board:
Happy Going Home Day!
